He has carefully crafted his image and toed the line politically, is believed to be a republican (claims independent) but has criticized Trump enough to please his liberal fans and not alienate his conservative ones. He's always on and people like him, that's why I don't think his allege political ambitions are a joke, I would not be shocked if he ran for political office and won.
