The stupidest thing is that if Trump had pardoned them he would have portrayed Trump as some great hero. People who focus their entire image of a person on one or two narrow issues important to themselves really piss me off.
At least he had one reason to think Trump might do something with Assange/Snowden - they were enemies of Clinton and Obama to some degree, so he could see it as sticking it to them one last time. People here who were hoping Trump would pardon Mumia, Assata, etc. were straight crazy.

I think it's clear that virtually every side of the ideological debate - from white nationalists to anti-interventionists to neocons to leftists - saw Trump as a blank slate with no real principles, who could be nudged to their side by appealing to his personality defects (vanity, selfishness, arrogance, stupidity, etc). They were largely wrong of course - Trump clearly had principles: self interest and power. But consider the way Trump convinced dumbass leftists that he was one of them because he promised a "big" healthcare plan that covered "everyone," or the way he promised $2000 checks because the number is bigger than $600 or $1200. And in Greenwald's case, the way pardoning Snowden and Assange would be a blow to Obama/the establishment/etc.
Yet at the end of the day, Snowden and Assange didn't have a six figure amount to offer in exchange for a pardon. So again, the dominant factor was not Trump being a blank slate who could be convinced of xyz...it was his selfishness and stupidity that ruled the day.
Glenn got played. Now he can go back to what he does best: peddling anti-US propaganda and specifically targeting democrats. It's highly unlikely Biden will start a new war but best believe he won't receive the kids glove treatment Glenn gave Trump.
