I also take it this couple looks well off or at least portrays to be well off and upper echelon to the world. No friend is asking a fellow friend to come to their European wedding if they know or believe they are cash strapped and "don't' have it."

You look stupid spending more money than people will ever even qualify to get a loan on....on something that has a nearly 50% failure rate with massive financial backlash.
If I told you that you can buy a house from me for 200k but there's a 50% chance that it will have an infestation of bedbugs that won't go away, termites, and chance that your neighbors on both sides will sell and turn their houses into traphouses with trash music bumping from 6pm-5:30am 6 days a week....would you roll the dice on that?

Damn that’s sad lol I’ve always felt like weddings are for well off people. My parents went to a courthouse and stayed together forever. The whole wedding shyt is just so selfish(sometimes)
I paid around 10k for my wedding. And I had a good one, but even at that low price, I thought I was pushing it.
It blows my mind when people talk about the average weddings being like $50,000 or more.

If either of them are seriously considering going, they are incompatible as a couple and it's a matter of time before they split.
I assume some of the debt is from educations. The thing is that if you're in academic and professional circles with wealthy people don't get sucked into trying to be them and spend money like them. You have same degree and same job title, but your finances are NOT the same. Move accordingly.
