Ms. Elaine
Spoiled Brat
I actually don't watch a lot of tv or film.@Ms. Elaine you going toe to toe over the movie. How come you aren't in the film room more often?

I only saw this movie because I had the opportunity to see it for $2.....and that's all that it was worth in my opinion.
In retrospect, it wasn't a bad film; but at the same time (based on the quality), it wasn't something that belonged on the big screen, much less something that deserves awards.
As someone who has a degree in math, I guess I was just a bit disappointed that a film called Hidden Figures had so little "figures" in it and the math showcased for the most part was pretty rudimentary.
Also, I understand they want to create a well rounded story but that whole romance subplot between Katherine and that military guy could have been cut and that time should have been given to developing the storylines of the other two women, who were by far the more interesting characters.
I've never been good at math. To see a black woman with a degree sis
Insulting it on the elementary algebra aspect (was that what you called it?). Damn rear saying it was damn near remedial math.
. Definitely not something I would recommend spending $15 on.

Then how would you have like to seen it executed? There was a good amount of focus on the math. They showed us Katherine doing quadratics at the age of 7 in her 8th grade class. All the black women in that particular room were called "computers" because of how fast they could compute mathematical problems by hand. How is that not focusing on the math? How many times did Katherine talk about she works on the trajectory and landing for NASA? They also mentioned how using an old technique that's no longer used was the solution to calculating how to put a rocket in space and get it to land safely.
And the the personal scenes added humanness to the characters. The movie is about the three women and all the challenges they faced, not just them working at NASA. If it only focused on math, then it would have been a movie for math scholars, not movies for a black family to enjoy.
