it is, but it's gettin' harder to get even get jobs that 10 plus years ago you couldn't gotten without a degree
you NEED SOME type of degree
but i hear you though
Nah breh, you dont NEED a degree. Yes you need one to have a boss, but i dont need one for my income. I'm a landlord, my tenants cut my checks in exchange for me providing them housing. Thats just my case, but there are plenty of people who go down the same path. If I go to school it would be to genuinely learn something rather than go for a job.

If I could do it over, I'd either:

1. Skip school, get certified in a trade, probably plumbing, electrical or carpentry, while studying entrepreneurship independently. Then get out on my own asap.

2. Still go to school, but major in some combination of entrepreneurship, finance & economics. Then get a job in finance / financial planning, and get out on my own asap.

What I did? Got an accounting degree, then accounting jobs until I figured out that I wanted to be an entrepreneur / professional investor. Mad time wasted.

You should be able to get a job at one of the auditing firms and transition into an analyst/valuation role with an accounting degree. Thats what my homie did

How did you get the money to invest in rental properties?:patrice:Are you even black?

College is the only real choice for a black person without money or connections.

Its a risk in every form of business. While I do see your argument I also hate this excuse. If you want a "higher" chance at landing a good paying job then yes go to college. Get a trade or sumn...hell go to community college the first 2 years. Gotta stop selling yall self short brehs :francis:

Exactly. This is basically what i was going to say in response to that post excuse.

Brothers who are reading this...because i don't give a flying fukk about cacs, only US, listen, stop going around spreading this "reasoning",about why it's better for a black male in america to not have a trade or degree. :snoop:I'm serious. If the degree thing isn't your thing, then at least learn a TRADE. And stop telling other nikkas that they're better off without it. Other nikkas who listen to your rhetoric are going to think they'll be "okay" trying to provide for a wife and kids in the future with no training, certifications or skills under their belt. This isn't like in our parents time where a black man could just not have any formal training/certifications and just go get a job and buy a house etc.

Degrees and trades have a bad wrap with a lot of you, but what we're saying is it generally gives you a bit more options. It still won't be easy, but it's a lot harder when you didn't go to any sort of post secondary school, especially in certain areas.

"Oh you'll get student loan debt if you go to school!" :francis:Well buddy, if you don't want a lot of debt, go to the local CC at least, apply for financial aid (NO EXCUSES, it's free to apply and you can do it online), see if you qualify for a Pell Grant, or anything else, i've known dudes who got their tuition and books paid for and also got a job on campus doing work study (free to apply for that as well, it's offered to students who need the help financially and maintain a certain GPA).

And IMO, it's not the worst thing to take out a loan IF YOU HAVE TO. That's the thing, i wouldn't recommend somebody to take out a loan if you don't really NEED it, but if you do, it isn't the worst thing in the world. :yeshrug:It's better than slinging coke for money and consequently getting locked up :mjpls:That's worse, but doesn't stop a lot of brehs from doing it anyway. No more excuses.

nikkas will talk down on community college, 4 yr schools and trade school, but will complain that Mexicans are getting construction jobs, being plumbers, mechanics, etc :childplease:if you're anti-degrees/trades, then don't complain about these other races "taking all the jobs". Some of them may look "dusty" but a lot of them do take full advantage of what schools offer them. I can say that much.

You won't have nearly as much loan debt at a CC anyway and many also offer trades if that's what you're interested in. I know a dude who was working fast food but went to a CC for auto/mechanics and got a better paying position afterwards at a dealership, one of his teachers actually got him on. School can be good for networking too.

So yeah...loan debt isn't IDEAL but some ppl DO need loans, it's not the worst thing in the world to take out a loan if you really need to. I wouldn't recommend going around taking them out if 1) you have other options, or 2) you plan to take out a whole lot of them. But if necessary, and in moderation, it's not the worst thing in the world.

Either do a trade, or go to a 2 year community college and get your associates, then transfer to another college to get your bachelors. Its much cheaper than going 4 straight years at a college.

That's the game!!! Niccas don't know the game. Also you do not have to go to some fancy college too.

2 year community college, decent state school combined with internships will get you in a lot of companies.

I hear you breh, but that just sounds like you limiting your options with that kind of thinking. We may not have the resources or support cacs get when they first leave the nest, but its very much possible to do it on your own and come out on top. I didn't get any support from family mentally and financially but here I am today.

Black folks and nut job white folks are the only people discouraging people from going to college..

white folks can afford to do that...black folks can't. In this day and age though...you just have to be careful about how you go about doing it...

As for me? If my kids don't get scholarships or acceptance to an Ivy or ivy-like school....they are going to a local State college. Then I'll explain to them...if they want to go to grad or professional school....then ill help them out in any and every way.

You're right breh :ehh:

We need to get an entrepreneurship thread going with people giving vivid details of how they were able to make it.:jbhmm:

Even though reddit is racist CAC central there entrepreneur threads are treasure troves of information. We need something similar here.
