They won't sit idle, but some of the tech Tesla developed is . Big oil/gas can only promise payments, basically bribes. Tesla is offering skyrocketing profits for the forseeable future not just here, but in other big markets, not to mention that the niche for this kind of car is growing, too.

You mean Tesla is going to have competitors who are going to produce alternative technology

And in turn this is going to force Tesla to innovate and improve on existing technology while also being competitive in price
