everyone forgets his work for the blaxploitation movie "trouble man". i think you hear some of his most thematic (musically speaking) music in those takes. there's this beautiful rendition of the theme done rubato and with marvin dubbing the horn lines with his vocals too. man was genius and not because of some major musical discovery or creation. just simply being smart and going for a stronger, rich and full sound. i recommend checking it out if you haven't. he's not singing thru the whole album but all the music was composed by him and there are some tracks he sings on. honestly, it's one album i would have loved to see him perform live. i've seen some videos on dailymotion from the 70s but there's little footage of him playing the material he played for that album.
