I didn't know that song was his biggest hit of his solo career at #8 on the R&B charts. The song is azz cheeks. Gone are the famous deep bassline grooves for that mid 80s beige Adult Contemporary R&B sound
But to your main point, SA didn't have the strongest voice but he had a distinctive voice. Slave and Hall of Fame were better because of it in my humble opinion.
