nikka are you the TLR Ambassador with all these threads?

Anyways yeah I cringe when players say that shyt. "God willed us to victory". :martin:
Strictly speaking it is gods will, but so are the starving kids across the globe

The b*stardization of Christianity has long been complete.:snoop:

It would make much more sense if he said "I thank God for the opportunity to play." But if you are saying that He chose you for a reason then you better be able to sit down and give me a theologically accurate explanation on why your win over Alabama advances the kingdom and ministry of God, and why an Alabama victory would have been detrimental to the spread of the Gospel.

This is not the Israelites in Canaan, this is a football game:snoop:

As I keep saying, this is my biggest problem with most Christians, they don't know much about their own religion, they just say and do things because other people said and did things

The Clemson quarterback must not know that Clemson has some suspect dudes on the team. I thought that God had some rules and regulations against that conduct. So why would God pick Clemson to win knowing that?

So what would y'all thank God for? Would you rather him say?

He's not simply thanking God, he's asserting that God chose them to be the champions and by that fact, he used divine intervention to ensure that Alabama did not win.

You see the difference right?

God didn't pick the winner or loser of the game.

But if you believe in God, it's perfectly reasonable to say that God created the environment for them to win.

Furthermore, his belief in God may have pushed him to go the extra mile and do what it takes to win. I don't shyt on religion because I've seen people use religion as inspiration to be a better person than they would have been without. So I just let them cook.

Creating the environment for competition, being the impetus for him to push further and dig deeper... those are fine.

But any athlete (Christian or otherwise) who says "God picked us to win" needs to be able to defend that statement from a doctrinal, theological standpoint.

Otherwise why even say it? It means absolutely nothing, its just a soundbite
