That's exactly why I said I don't usually partake in religious discussions. Back on topic, though. When I asked my mom that question as a jit, she said something along the lines of, "With God, there's no beginning and there's no end." If she would've given me a more direct answer, I was gon' say, "Well, who created God's creator," etc... It would've resulted in a never-ending discussion on who created who.

I haven't been to church in about 16 years, so I'm illiterate when it comes to Christianity and religion as a whole, but I plan on going back to church, 'cause I'm curious about a lot of things. For example, my mom, who's a Jehovah's Witness, always says... "There's only one true God (Jehovah), and only those serving him, will be resurrected after Armageddon." That statement made me say, "Everyone who serves God think that their God is the 1 true God. What if your God isn't the 1 true God, then what?" To be honest, religion confuses me, 'cause they're so many different types.

More than anything, read the Bible on your own. Proverbs and Psalms are some of my favorite and if you just want to randomly read, they are a nice place to start.

The thing about the Bible is, everyone has their own interpretation of what the scriptures mean. You could ask 3 people (with different religious backgrounds) to read the same scripture and I bet they'd all come back with different interpretations of what the scripture meant. Reading comprehension means nothing when it comes to the Bible.

The morals from the stories are more important than their actually being a creator in the sky. I hate going to church services and the pastor reading some random ass scriptures and it coincidently aligning with all the wrong shyt I specifically been doing :francis:
that's the whole point of it :mjcry:

Ultimately that's why I find it important to see what's in there on your own. That's how a lot of people get hustled by these prosperity preachers. No need to wait for someone else to interpret things for you when you have the source text for yourself.

Meh. I'm a firm believer in God. I've had a sense of the divine both in myself and the world around me since I was little. However atheism just doesn't bother or phase me.

God's existence isn't contingent on whether people believe in God or not. I just don't see the point of debating somebody's personal experiences of their idea of the sacred. Personally I see God in just about everything. Its unfathomable to me even at the atomic level that people think that life and the constant push to live and understand and love is something random or unplanned. It's also intellectually arrogant to assume that just b/c I can't ascertain something with my empirical senses, it must not exist.

But people believe what they need to believe in the end, whether they believe in God or not. Regardless, I'm more of the mind of Pascal's wager. If I die today or tomorrow and God doesn't exist, I lost virtually nothing by believing in God. But if God does exist, I will have wasted a lifetime ignoring the divine and failing to live up to my divine potential...

Meh. I'd encourage people to merely be open in their hearts and minds to the possibility. If u can't there is probably some underlying issues that ironically have nothing to do with the idea of a divine sacred.

Doesn't the scripture you subscribe to say you have to actually believe, and not consciously hedge your bets for a chance at winning:leostare:

If you dont think there's a god why do you feel the need to announce it. If you so sure just live your life and let those of us that do believe in god practice our faith.
Because organized religion has catastrophic consequences in practice. And is mainly used as a tool for oppression, classism, and outright slaughter. Admittedly, it is humanity's fault not the scripture, because they contain some very positive themes, but it's bad regardless. The ideal is too separate from the reality.

Who said I subscribed to a religion? I believe in God and that has nothing to do with what someone did before I was born
