Above the fray.
It wasn’t shytty. And def wasn’t the worst song. U think that shyt was worse than “another”?
it was shytty

why produce a dope album with great tracks and throw a generic west coast sounding beat on there?

I can't get jiggy to that shyt.

there was a mixtape with Biggie rapping over classic west coast beats.......straight bangers ....they aired it on the radio all the time....Years later I realized that the radio version deleted the verses where he was rapping over the generic funky worm beat.
Getting rid of that part upset the storyline of the song, but after hearing the full version I see why they took it out. Biggie's voice doesn't sound right on corny beats.

shyt was trash.........better beat would have made it better

LL easily. Also... the fact that Biggie made a song talking shyt about going back to Cali and then got smoked in Cali was a whole new level of FAIL.

LLs song is better

But when you look at how totally wrong Big was to step foot in Cali, his song doesn't come off as triumphant. Its actually spooky sad in context

never liked the big version..shyt was generic to me
Say wha? How somebody doesnt like that joint is beyond me.

It didn't seem genuine. Parts of it seemed like he was copping pleas and explaining himself.

The rest of it seemed like he was trying to appeal to the west coast when he was the embodiment of everything east coast.

At the time I remember thinking "This is another ploy concocted by Puffy."

To me it's no different than this:

I always go back and research certain songs.. I remember reading this before from Rick Rubin. Leaving this hear on how basically every era of rap, rappers wanna define success on the wring shyt at times. Thought it was interesting

Rick Rubin:

“I had a strong feeling of how L.L. should look in the video,” Rubin told NPR in 2011. “This was at a time when rappers all wore a lot of gold jewelry. And I was very insistent that L.L. not wear any jewelry.”
Cool J complained to Simmons, who instructed him to obey Rubin.
“I tried to explain to him,” Rubin told NPR, “like ‘the reason you don’t want to wear jewelry is because everyone’s wearing jewelry. And it’s much more interesting when everybody’s wearing jewelry for you not to.’ And he was like, ‘How are people going to know I’m successful if I’m not wearing jewelry?’ And I said, ‘Because you’re so successful, you don’t need jewelry!’”

Dope from Rubin
