depends on the player and the path they choose

Jaden Hardy went to g-league and got exposed because he couldn’t deal with the jump In athleticism….however you can argue that him being forced to develop his game earlier may help him in the future... in college he probably would’ve cooked dudes ,got overdrafted and be Johnny Davis status

Jalen green got buckets in the gleague but it’s been 3 years since he’s played in a real system with a high level pg and high level coaching …maybe he would’ve been better off going to college long term but you can’t say the g league hurt his draft prospects

Jalen Duren went to Memphis and walked into a shyt-show which had people wondering if he was even a lottery talent.. goes to the nba and it’s apparent immediately that Memphis held him back and cost him money . If he goes to the g league he gets picked way higher and actually gets coached bc penny ain’t coaching shyt down there

for some it’s the right choice for others it’s questionable

Isn’t the gleague competition and development better
If the goal is to get to the league, the gleague is probably the best option

yes

the g-league is filled with dudes who were decent or good in college but not good enough to make the league or stay on a roster consistently. nick nurse used to coach in the g-league. there is real talent there both on the coaching side and on the playing side.

college competition is filled with hundreds of kids who will never even sniff the league and bunch of tyrant ass college coaches who stay away from the NBA because they prefer to boss kids around.

just because @CrimsonTider doesn't know who you are doesn't mean the 30 scouts for every nba team isn't watching your shyt :mjlol:

and I'm not saying the NCAA has no value, especially for players that are going to need more than 1 year before they enter the league, but acting like G-League players are off in some obscure Siberian basketball league or some shyt, especially in 2023 is just unfactual.

Im dont Watch college bball
Anymore. Much less the g leaugue.

But draft wise and actual talent, why isnt the g league ideal for players who want to strictly focus on bball and not grades and the general fukkery of a college campus?

Conversly, how do we know the g league is better environment for a young player. And Vice versa?

Yeah, this isnt a good take, OP. More or less, its a old school take.

The G League is the best move for these players these days, instead of college. You are only going to college for 1 year anyway, and these kids dont want to fake and go to class for that 1 semester just to play the season. Makes no sense anymore.

You go to the G League, ALL of the teams are watching you play against players who are as close to NBA ready as can be night in and night out. They have all the film. There is nothing that a college player can prove by dominating Samford, or Central Connecticut State for half a season. Or looking for your game on FS2 or ESPN News. There are 360 colleges with 15 players each. The college pool is diluted.

Also, you have all these college players and G League players fighting for 30 guaranteed 1st round spots. We already know that a handful of those spots are going to international players, so its more like 10-15.

Look at the NBAdraft.net mock draft right now. Is anyone watching Noah Clowney highlights? He is projected 10th and goes to Alabama. I have never heard of this kid. Some kid from Pepperdine named Maxwell Lewis is projected 13th? He is in college, and I have never heard of him. Where is he highlight tape?

4 of the top 10 draft picks are listed to be at Alabama or Arkansas RIGHT NOW. Are you watching ALL Alabama and Arkansas games to see how these kids play? They play each other Feb 25, and no one cares. No one is gonna make that appointment TV to watch that game.

5 of the Top 15 listed now are in France, the G League or Overtime Elite. The college system as we know it is over.

college is just a way for the system to extract some of the most athletic years away at a minimal cost
professional sports don't really need college, look at the foreign football leagues, tennis etc

college sports is better suited for olympic amateurs and sports without big pro leagues, like lacrosse and field hockey

at 17-21 you should be in a smaller market, developing your skills and getting paid....then get the big money contract

Nothing personal but from an old school college basketball fan perspective I do miss these cats going to college and watching them play and build their hype and brand before being drafted.
Also players that play well in college and flame out or bust in the pros retain a level of cache with that school and fans which is always great for your brand

The G league could be in Zimbabwe and it would feel the same

I wouldn't want to go to the gleague straight out of high school. It would either be go to college or right to the league. Theres nothing like being a athlete in college. It was one of my favorite memories ever. I played in a few semi pro leagues but after college basketball was just about business and it took some of the fun out of it.

You can't replace those 17-21 memories in college. Gleague for a 18yr old is just another job
