Going to law school is pointless if it's not a top tier one.

like i said, i know former felons who've studied from prison that do better work than law students. if you want to learn something, you'll do it regardless of location. what law school you go to?
Idk what do better work means. Please research employment statistics of lawyers and lower tiered law schools before u tell ppl to go to any law school. Especially since educational loans are nondischargeable

what drives me about this thread is you've got a bunch of people talking about working law firms and shyt when you graduate; getting jobs and shyt. like, is that ALL you can think of doing after you graduate? getting a job? in that case, yes, you'd be better off at top tier schools where you get starting salary offers 80k+ a year for a big firm because they target those universities. but, as with any field you choose, you should be studying law to figure out things to do for yourself, not to help someone else and then have them pay you. people will ask you to do that for them (keyword is ask, rather than you ask for a job) if you're good at helping yourself. there's just so many areas and fields of law, to talk about getting a job at a firm seems narrow minded. there's public policies to be created, music related law, if you're a hard-ass tool you could be the next district attorney, etc. so many different ways you can use law and everyone here is just worried about employment. most lawyers create their own work, tbh, and they get heavily rewarded for their efforts because of their knowledge

Are you aware of the average debt of law grads? A lot of ppl go to bad law schools and cent pass the bar, end up in jobs where they can afford their loan payments or to support themselves or their families. Thats why it's important to go to schools that will best help you get jobs in the high paying firms so that the taking on the debt makes sense OR have a clear idea on what you want to do with your degree

It also depends on location.

Even someone who went to a lower tier law school in say NYC will have a better chance at a job than someone who went to a lower tier school in say St. Louis.

Same goes for dc law schools.

But yeah op is right. It's best to shoot for a T14.

Also If you have a degree in electrical engineering and a law degree atleast from a T2 you can make bank in patent law. I was considering that route but the 100 hour was absolutely NOT for me.

Then there's the bullshyt that if you don't make partner in 7-10 years they fire your ass. Such a nutty profession.

I got a temp job at Quinn Emanuel, the biggest business law firm in the world, as a document reviewer. it was a patent infringement case...I had just quit the patent office...so I was the only non-lawyer they hired for this task. All my coworkers were JDs from non-top tier firms who couldn't find work

the average salary for a lawyer at Quinn Emanuel was 1.4 mil....that was in 2008

That sounds like patent law which is a different animal because itsit's not as saturated. To practice patent law you need a science phd or an abet accredited engineering degree with your JD

You guys disagreeing with OP just simply have no idea what you are talking about or are actually in law school and refuse to believe sh1t looking bad for you. It's so commonly understood you can consider it a fact that law school is not worth it now days...and only T-14 are getting money. Any other school you might get a regional job but your prospects are limited and money is not what you think it is. Doc review is not even real legal work..It's the equivalent of saying you got an Masters of accounting but can only get hired for turbotax chat desk.
