still im sure tourists dont take the same trains/streets/alleys as the normal resident would. if you're a tourist you're staying in teh city center and doing "touristy" things.
if you're going for an in depth look at the city/country, then you're looking for trouble.
Normally I'd agree, however this is one of the countries where we can't blend in and the population at large can be a bit hostile to outsiders. It's always among the top 5 when it comes to places labeled the most unfriendliest to tourists, and that's with other white folk.

If anything the russian leadership at least despise the british more these days, because we objected to them assassinating their own citizens in our country a few years back, and threw some of their diplomats out, so then they threw some of ours out for spying ,then we threw some of theirs out for spying , , and relations are almost non existant,the cold war is back when it comes to russian and the UK . Russian business men are a different matter though, they love britain lol.
I'm black and I've been to Moscow. I went to see the Lenin mausoleum whilst also doing some sightseeing whilst I was there.
I did stay in a hostel and hooked up with the other travelers whilst I was there so I was never really alone, but nothing happened to me. Personally it's not an attractive city and if it wasn't for the Lenin thing I wouldn't have bothered. but I guess it's nice to say you've been to one of the most iconic cities and countries in the world.
