Oceana grill And definitely hit up Cafe du Mond. Beignets with ice cold milk All the places in the french quarter I ate at were great except for Montrel's Bistro. Service was lackluster and food was meh. I went there twice and was disappointed.

St. Charles as mentioned is cool. New Orleans has a ton of cool neighborhoods and shyt to do outside of the touristy parts. Don't let the local cacs at the hotels scare you about going outside of the French Quarter, but use your judgement.

look fam, if u want a real po boy come to the 7th ward on St. Claude and Elysians Fields.....its called Gene's.......if u tourist be sure to look like a tourist.......i.e.... i luv New Orleans shirt......... you know drape yourself with Mardi Gras beads....... and just stop in sudden places and stare off into space.....and u should be good......

Yeah New Orleans street trash/thugs seem very hostile toward out of towners(in particular fellow blacks) whom visit their rat holes/ hoods....I know of atleast 3 unproved murders of transplants in the city whom made the mistake of venturing or working in NO slums within the last year...Recently one young brother from my hometown whom attended UNO was gunned down in his vehicle by a 16 yr old shythead gang banger supposedly visiting while visiting chick in the East(which I thought was a decent section of the city)

New Olreans ghettos are infested with animals whom been well trained by whitey to attack/prey on the righteous and vulnerable brothers/sisters trying to do better for themselves/lift up the community..I wouldn't go to any NO crime ridden area without reason or protection..

My lil cousin and her family actualy chose to move from the suburbs(St. Tammany Parish) to the city proper last year so if they survive and don't decide to move againI might have to get them to show me around soon...Last time I went down as right before Katrina......Didn't stay long but Bourban street seemd overrated...UNO campus had a few broads though.

That post wasn't to you or your situation in particular..it was me venting my digusted at the at the way the gorilla thugs in the NO are targeting progressive black transplants(among ohter innocent AAs) in their turf wars.

I would probably take the advice the NO dudes gave you on here though I think it's probably relatively safe to go in sketchy areas such as you had in mind during the day and take a snap shot considering me and my people drove through a few project/hood looking areas down there with no problems.
