Just going for a weekend. Mainly want to take photos and just chill.

Last time I went to NYC was 2002 , so yeah it's been a while.

Should I rent a car? Should I do a shuttle from LaGuardia to my hotel? (Staying in financial district)

What are some cool restaurants?

What areas should I avoid?
Don't rent a car. Use the Subway or get an Uber.

Areas to avoid, you should be straight anywhere really it's 2017, and its not like you have beef here or are involved in the streets here, your chances of getting victimized as a tourist are pretty low honestly, you in a big city, be street smart. :manny:

Restaurants my favorite pizza joint is Full Moon Pizzeria in the Little Italy section of the Bronx (more authentic than the Manhattan one) right off Fordham University, Sylvia's of course probably the most famous soul food spot in NY go check out Harlem while you at it, Dominican spots go to the Heights to Malecon, Jamaican spot like somebody already said Paul's Bakery on White Plains Road in the Bronx, like somebody said La Marina is nice (restaurant+water front, should be baddies there), try NY street food nothing like a chopped cheese from the ahks the most famous spot for them is probably Hajjis Deli on the East Side of Harlem but you could get them at most corner stores.

I don't know if you into basketball, but as a NY'er one of my favorite things to do in the summer is hit up street ball tournaments. Rucker, Dyckman, West 4th, Gersh, I get to see a lot of elite prospects and pro players play in a street ball setting. And you don't know who might show up. Lance Stephenson and Isaiah Whitehead both showed up and played at Hoops In The Sun the other day. This Saturday this is going down...

Leaving the 30th coming back the 2nd just a quick trip

Actually going to try out the new 800 dollar camera lens I bought.

Terms of food I guess whatever is the new York speciality

Wanted to go to times square central park, my hotel is like less than a mile from the new wtc

July 4 weekend. Stay out of the rivers on either side of manahttan.

You gave to little Info on what you are trying to do and food/vibe you like.

Mets/yanks play mostly like.
Comedy cellar be poppin usually and village underground.
Avoid time square/herald square. It's madness and you will be g'd becuase of tourist prices in that area.

Cliff/vacca lounge for the my Latin mamis.

I just gave you what I'm doing next weekend, shyt.

Anywhere to shop in Manhattan that ain't to pricey?

Like is there a mall or anything ?

Don't do a shuttle. Just uber or have a Chinese car ready to pick you up for $20.

No point in renting a car. Subway for short distances or uber/china cars for long distances. The trip up the west side highway on a warm summer night cannot be beat.

I doubt you'll find yourself in a sketch area on purpose. Avoid time square. Avoid Mcdougal street and other areas around NYU. Take a trip up to Harlem during the day and just walk around and enjoy the sights, women, music, etc.

For food, I'd go to the LES: orchard, Allen, ludlow, rivington filled with good but affordable spots. There is a nice intimate Jamaican spot on Orchard. The crowds can be obnoxious in the LES on weekends though. This will be convenient location wise though since you'll be in the financial district which is a ghost town at night. What type of food you like?

Bring some money to shop. Also hit up the MoMA and Whitney. There are always free events in NYC that would cost anywhere else so look into that as well.

If You Want A Real NY Experience Take The M60 Bus From LaGuardia To 125th & St Nick, It's Not A Long Ride And You'll Get To See A Little Of Harlem, You'll Even Ride Right By The Apollo, As A Matter Of Fact The Stop You Get Off Will Be A Block Down From It

From There You Can Take The Express A Train To Fulton St And You'll Be Short Walking Distance From Where You Gotta Be

If You Want Some Dope Mexican Food Look Up "Mad Dogg And Beans" It's In The Area, There's Also A Small Asian Spot Called "BonChon" That Got Some Great Crispy Chicken

As Far As Shopping I'm The Wrong Head To Ask I Keep It Simple, There's Is A Manhattan Mall On 34th St But It's Been Renovated, There's Not A Ton Of Stores And Its Nothing Compared Other Malls In The US, I Wouldn't Bother Going There

It's Summer So Times Square Will Be Extra Annoying, But Hey Its An Experience, Central Park Is Nice, If You Wanna Go Somewhere Quiet Where You Can Run Or Bike Ride And Take Some Sick Photos Take The Ferry To Governors Island, The Ferry Is $2 And The Ride Is Like 8 Mins

Personally, I'd say make your way down SoHo and just go in different stores that catch your eye. As a tourist, I'm sure you'll enjoy the crowds on a sunny summer day, too.

If you need a break inbetween, stop at my old spot Le Basket which has outdoor seating. I don't think you drink or smoke but you can do that outside and people watch.

Really the thing with NYC is just exploring stuff for yourself. I can name a bunch of different places I LIKE but they might not align with your taste and they are places I mostly found by exploring. Just get up early and explore the different stores, shops and boutiques.

Avoid the West Village. Its mostly overpriced boutiques for super rich folks. East Village is mostly college kids and food spots. St Marks is another place to visit for really good and cheap eats, especially if you like Asian cuisine.
