I'm a fan of both of them. I was a Goku fan for DBZ, but then Vegeta was pretty cool in Super, though I'll also say it was years between last watching Z and Super, so my understanding of people and characters in a show might have affected that as well

What made their first fight so good was the fact that even tho Goku was crippled he was still lowkey fighting Vegeta. He got Gohan to fight Vegeta while he gave krillin the sprit bomb. He was coaching them telepathically on what to do. GOATku never gives up even after being crippled.

That fight was like 7 on 1 plus a spirit bomb and Prince Vegeta walked away still.

Goku was more concerned with Buu and only fought Vegeta because his feelings were hurt. He even hid SSJ3 from him. And then vegeta had to cheap shot him with his back turned. Ain’t nothing honorable about what Majin Vegeta did. He even sacrificed himself and Buu came right back
