A viral post on Reddit noting that Warriors guard Ky Bowman qualified for low-income housing in San Francisco launched a thorough and wide-ranging discussion about the region's housing crisis. Blogs were written, repeating the information unearthed in the Reddit post. Unfortunately, the entire premise is false.

Ky Bowman is what's known as a "two way" player, meaning he shares time in both the NBA G-League and the NBA. The salary for a "two way" player in the 2019-2020 season is $79,658, assuming the player spends no days in the NBA. While spending time with an NBA team, two way players accrue a prorated NBA minimum salary for players with zero years of experience, which, for the 2019-2020 season, is $898,310.

Bowman is limited to 45 total days in the NBA, per the terms of the Two-Way Player Contract outlined in the NBA's collective bargaining agreement. On Wednesday, The Chronicle's Connor Letourneau reported the Warriors chose not to practice "so they wouldn’t have to count a day against the 45-day limits for two-way guys Ky Bowman and Damion Lee." From this, one can assume Bowman will max out his 45 days in the NBA.

In the scenario where Bowman spends 45 days in the NBA this season, Bowman's salary for the 2019-2020 season would be $283,855.49.

The San Francisco Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development gives us the details for affordable housing qualification in the city. To qualify for the city's "Inclusionary Housing Below Market Rate (BMR) Rental Program," the applicant must earn between 55% and 120% of the area median income, or AMI. The OHCD provides a handy chart, which shows that, even if Bowman had nine members of his family, his $283,855 salary places him far above the 120% AMI bracket, which sat at $193,700 in 2017.

So, anyway, no, Ky Bowman would not qualify for low-income housing in San Francisco.

The market in Cali is beyond screwed up right now. I'm not sure the government can do anything to help it at this point.

The government is the reason behind this fukkery in the first place. They basically control that real estate shyt. They couldn't do that shyt without their approval
