Like a prenup....you can set your own terms, and both parties sign and agree...nobody gets hurt unless shyt goes south.

Look up at fault divorce.

'Cheating' was long penalized monetarily and carried social stigma. This was purposefully overturned with the feminism craze. As result, divorce skyrocketed and the puritanical religions (Amish, Fundamentalist Mormons, etc) don't take basic mainstream marraiges seriously. We look at your paper marraige liscences as meaningless because you don't adhere to them yourselves. You get married monday, dishonor your vows, then are divorced by the weekend.
So when christians are like 'I'm married' we are like 'sure you are.' :skip:
