All these young black people that are out here unemployed hopeless and angry because they can't find work. I tell yall that a young breh landed a job and some of yall coming with the bullshyt.

Of course he needs to pursue more education he's 19 a warehouse job isn't his destiny god damn.

Get future career ideas from where u working. If in a warehouse..what type of course did those making bank do?..find one that interests you and take it from there. Some companies even offer training opportunities if u showing interest..if not use them for work experience while they use you for labour to get the right certs.

Be there first and leave last is a good way to set yourself apart. Be willing to do the work other's complain and whine about doing. Be open to manager requests because that means they trust you with responsibilities more than others.

Be 25-50% more productive than your coworkers only to get 1-2% more than your coworkers at your annual evaluationAnd most of the time it's the average or underperforming ones who end up getting a better job making $5-10k more or starting their own business making more than the workhorseHow much management and staff likes you is just as important as actual work ethic in moving up the ladder.

Working in a warehouse is not a dead end job. Any job can be a dead end if you don't map out ultimately what you want to be doing.

I started unloading UPS trucks at 19. 16 years later, I manage 25 warehouses all over the country, and special projects for all of North America.

You don't even need to go into management either, you can just go to another department in the company.

^^I'm conflicted because the cynical side of me agrees with yall but, the successful side of me sees yall as carrying defeated toxic energy that yall wanna pass to the younger generation and I cant rock with that.

The most important thing is that he develops a strong work ethic for himself that can be transferred despite whatever type of company culture he finds himself in. Meaning, he shouldn’t compromise on the quality of work he does because of whether or not a company or its management is shytty or not, but because he demands the best from himself.

The most important skill as it relates to performance for me is efficiency.

Being efficient on the things that you need to do allows you the ability to spend time on the things that you want to do. Essentially, always trying to challenge yourself to do the same amount of work in half the time without compromising on quality. This means being extremely conscious of the amount of time that you spend on every activity. It means streamlining processes where possible. It means automating work where possible. It means delegating work to others where possible.

The pursuit of efficiency will always keep your mind thinking about new ways to improve and is a skill that would be an asset to all other areas of your life.

Always go above and beyond what your Job role is. Essentially, become an indispensable person they can’t afford to lose.

But warehouse job is a shyt job and 19yr old man really should be aiming higher. Use this job to develop your work skills but either aim for college or learn some actual skills.

If I were to drop some game, I would say tell that young man to look for a job that would help him build up a high caliber network as early as possible.

As black people, we miss out on so many opportunities because we don’t have the right networks that could be leveraged into other opportunities.

If he’s not in college right now, starting off in a warehouse where the quality of people will not be the greatest, may limit the scope of opportunities he sees especially if he doesn’t come from the best background. My advice would be to try to find a job where he will be around people that have a broader horizon.

I would particularly see if there are caddy opportunities at a local country club or golf course in which he could take advantage.

When he starts school they'll let him work part time instead of the full work week which is good. I'm just proud to see a young black breh get some steady income for himself because the amount of young unemployed is staggering where I'm from.
