and i believe thats why jigga man chose this route. he just went platinum, thanks to samsung.

Jigga: " i just went platinum before the album dropped" ( as he speaks to timbo and pharrell)

Jigga:" so now what we gone do?... Lets give the people a real quality product since we're no longer beholding to HIT songs and Club singles. we can just go hard, go in. and come with great MUSIC. if they are hits. GREAT, if not... its still going to be GREAT MUSIC regardless."

^^the samsung deal take away the burden of trying to impress a label exec rather then impressing us FANS. and yes i hate hooking up with corporate america. but this my friends might just be a win.

This is wishful thinking.

Jay for the most part is locked into a formulaic pop approach to making his albums.

He would have to surprise me and go back to a black album/ American gangster format for this to be true.

He doesn't deliver enough lately for anybody to bet on him being about making a dope album without all the filter and formula.

People can hate or doubt but it's smells of success and a win to me.

Who cares if its a one off. Jay is making positive moves again!

This is the other thing I just thought of too. The article is coming from a place of a fan of good music first. Thats sometimes lost.

Lets look at what's been the typical artists complaint about the suits ie the label.
1. The suits take away the creative control and force us to make cookie cutter shyt.
2. And if it works, they rape us on the money and plaster our faces on everything from lunch boxes to whatever, and they give us pennies.

What jay has basically done, openly admitting, is he took away his own creative control and put himself in the position to basically rape himself in the way artists typically been raped by suits. The story has a certain David and Goliath, Robin Hood aspect, plus the racial aspect being a black man, so he's a heroic figure even though depending on his next album his legacy as an artist is in jeopardy in my eyes. But again, the social and racial component to the story makes it feel excusable, that's the jayz conundrum.
^^do you even know what you're talking about?
what you said was completely false.

normal situations

Rapper- wants to make music A.

Label- tells rapper we need you to make this kind of music(music B) because the record needs to go platinum. the share holders need that money and we know music B gets heavy club play and radio play for a bigger push of the album.

Rapper is FORCED to make Music B even though thats not his style or the lane he wanted to go in.

fans - get another cookie cutter album/rapper.

What happened with this jigga and samsung situation.

Rapper wants to make music A
Corporation just wants to put rappers face with product no matter what music he makes.. corporation pushes rapper to a platinum plaque before the album drops. releasing the corporation from having the ability to monitor or tell said rapper what kind of music to make. Corporation is not in business to sale records. they are in business to sale phones.
corporation is not a shareholder for rocnation or even any distributor that distributes roc nation music. again meaning this corporation doesnt care what kind of music jay makes.

fans- we end up getting the kind of music that said rapper wanted to give to the fans.. music A.

jigga can now rap like common if he so well chooses. and no matter what he has gone platinum.

The only reason he would dumb himself down on this coming album is because he's afraid of losing the ability to have a "HIT" song getting heavy play all over. but that has nothing to do with a corporation pimping him or him pimping himself, etc

jigga just flipped it for the artist, for the fans.

he has been locked in because he was always tied to "gotta lead with a single, gotta have X number of hits in order to sell X amt of records."

what happens when you take the "have to sell X amt of records" out of the equation?

use your head for a moment before you respond.

its like your professor in english class saying "i need you to write a paper on this or this. so you have to stick to those 2 topics. and thats the way its always been. but now you found a loophole. you found a way where you now have more then just two choices of what to write about on your next paper. cause this teacher gave you an A before the paper was written.

so now the only reason you would write the same stale paper as before, is because you're afraid to write anything else at this point in time. maybe because you dont trust your own abilities. that would be the only way i see this as a bad album being made. or a non artistic album being made.

If the game gonna pimp you,you might as well pimp the game:yeshrug:
Even if it's a one time thing.

Pretty much. He's been making these type of moves since he signed on to be the figurehead at Def Jam. He partners up with a company & allows them to use his celebrity to market their product, then makes a similar type of move a year or two later with a bigger check and/or a higher ownership stake. He deals with these big entities so he can sell his "cool" and maintain his "cool" at the same time. Look at 50. He's been kinda cold since he cashed out of Vitamin Water. Plus with all the money 50 has he's been having a hard time getting his ventures off the ground because he's dead set on having a certain level of control. For the time being Jay-Z is only looking to control the way he's portrayed in the media, because that's his bread and butter.

Its a win win situation no doubt.

Samsung get a fukk load of publicity for a very small investment and linking up with Jay Z is only gonna increase their reputation right across the board.

Plus its something innovative as far as I'm aware? Why not try new ways of pushing the music out there as goin to the store and buying a CD is pretty rare since the internet stepped its game up in a major way :salute:

As for benefits to Jay Z, Samsung are paying for all the promotion of the album and the way the album is being given away free through a samsung app is making news bringing even more publicity.:manny:

Pretty clever marketing all round.:ehh:

But I think the thing we gotta expect is for fans, jigga stans especially, will listen to the music biased by Jays ability to create an event around it. That may really be jiggas real legacy, how he can influence how people hear the music. That's when you get people saying shyt like "jigga stunting is real, he got Obama on the text!!!!" Like that makes the music good.

IMO, this is what people did to "Watch The Throne"....I can't stand that album....
