You people take yourselves entirely too seriously. It's as if some of you live in your own worlds where everything revolves around your personal opinion. You don't speak for "we", you only speak for "you". I don't know if it makes some of you feel better to pretend as if you speak for the consensus or what, but it's corny. There was nothing wrong with BP3 imo, it didn't sound uninspired to me.

We're on an Internet message board about rap music, it's kinda what we do

How exactly did he take away his own creative control? He doesn't work for Samsung. @rapbeats hit the nail right on the head. He doesn't have the pressure now to make the type of music he may not want to now.

I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like common sense

The thing people forget is if your really all about money in the first place...how can this be a loss?? Other than promotion how does Samsung win?? Who the fukk is buying a $200 Samsung product just to get a free Jay-Z album??

People talk about the art like Jay-Z does it for the love (maybe at one point he did), all Jay-Z did was 3 things with this deal.

1. Secure 1 Million record sales at $5 a pop (I don't care how much of that 5 million he's actually pocketing, that's guaranteed sales)

2. Samsung pays for his promotion.

3. Avoids the "Jay-Z only sold 300-400 thousand records first week = flop :umad:" thread.
and this is why yall dont work in marketing. because yall cant see.

let me explain how samsung wins here, as well as jigga(the artist, not just the business man)- i explained the jigga win above.

i'm in the market for a new phone as we speak. i was already looking at that S4. reading the reviews still on the fence if i feel like blowing that much money on the phone, will i even use all of those features all of the time or will i turn half of them off to give me phone more battery life. thinking about that HTC one, thinking about going the cheap route and getting a S3 then throw in a few bucks so i can get out of my contract in a year instead of 2(basically be a free agent again next summer just in case something hot comes along.) i still have the giant note II on my list.

a couple of windows phones are on my radar as well.

Then i see this, talking about a free jigga album with a samsung phone. now i'm thinking. maybe i will ride with samsung. its not like they have a bad product. its not like jay is selling me on some BS. samsung phones are 4 to 5 star phones. regardless of jigga or not. throw him in, could actually make a guy like me make a final decision vs just hanging out there with my old phone for another 2 months, or slipping up and buying another phone. i mean i can go the cheap route and get a s3 and still get that new jigga vs getting another cheap route phone. thats on par with the s3. it can become just the nudge needed. again the samsung phones are really good phones to begin with so its not like they're trying to sell us crap + a jigga album.

any other rapper i.e. 2pac, Nas, Scarface, Dre,Snoop,Rakim, LL Cool J etc that would have done this would have been labeled a sell out, a corporate slave, etc..

but Hov is doin it, and he's a boss :snoop:

they are labeling him a slave too. some are.

but when you realllly think about it. check it out. and stop with the jigga is a corporate slave speak, for on minute. lets say this is common doing this.

think about it. rappers have to appease the labels who have to appease shareholders. this is what has killed our music. but rappers need the money and push labels provide. and the labels need the album sales that the the songs provide to give the shareholders their cut.

what jigga just did, is he got the money UP front without a label being involved. samsung is not a record label. they dont have any stake in album sales since they are only buying them to give them away for free. nothing more, nothing less.

samsung has ZERO creative control. so guess who has all the cards now? JAY Z.

people the man just went ULTRA independent with this move. the execs of whoever he distributes with are already happy since he's gone plat. no one has a word to say to the man. DO YOU JAY, DO YOU. thats what the song of the day will be.

he flipped it. give the dude his props for this move.

Now if he starts making macklemore music, then he's a camel. and thats the end of it.

but if what we heard in that commercial an indication of what is to come. OH MY.

Everybody that you named is/was a "corporate sellout". Please tell me that you're not really this stupid.

Again with this "we" shyt. I'm on the Internet just like you and I don't feel the bee to try ad bolster my own opinions and thoughts by acting as if they represent the consensus. This thread is complete bullshyt. Jay Z didn't give up creative control, that's the beauty of the deal. The 1 million that Samsung copped and is promoting freed Jay up to do whatever he wanted.

So your telling me Samsung paid $5 Million (in just album sales) for a nudge :comeon:

Look IM sure Samsung has their reasons, Im not saying they aren't getting anything from the deal (mainly just affiliating with Jay-Z's brand). The thread is who's the winner!! I can actually see Jay-Z's win (1 million in sales = $5 million, plus free album promotion)...where as Samsungs is more theoretical (maybe someone that is in the new phone market will buy for the album). Samsung is making this app available to most Samsung products already available, IM not buying no fukking phone for an album I can get for free anyways (shyt I'll :eat: off my girls s3). So Samsung gets jack shyt from me where as Jay-Z technically gets an album sold.
