for you...dont act like its gospel. Chromebook is exploding while windows 8 is a flop
Fall back son...

I have a cheap $249 samsung chromebook and I'm not entirely impressed. Especially with the lack of applications. I won't front I saw your other thread about the chromebook pixel, then did some googling and I was impressed with its design and potential capabilities, but I'm willing to bet it's still not touching my Sony Vaio Duo 13...

Maybe when google steps their app game up they'll be a serious competitor.

did you miss where i said android and chrome os will work together?? :rudy:

whats the purpose of windows if you can run android apps on the chromebook :lolbron:

You are comparing apple to oranges when you compare the Chrome OS to Windows. How can something like a Chrome OS overtake Windows when pretty much the whole world uses Windows and not too many people know about Chrome OS, or have the resources for something like iOS.

As far as Desktops being "dead" I wouldn't go as far as saying that, but he does have a point. I remember reading that Desktop computers universally are on the decline due to tablets, smartphones and cheaper laptops. It makes complete logical sense, and for people to say that it doesn't...:rudy:I went to buy a Chromebook two weeks ago and ended up walking out with nothing. TBH I wasn't really impressed. :yeshrug:

Microsoft beware: Google Chromebooks could surge | Mobile - CNET News

Shipments of Chromebooks based on Google's Chrome operating system will surge in the second half of this year, according to an Asia-based report.

Shipments could be "double or even triple" the number in the first half of the year, according to areport Monday in Digitimes that cites unnamed electronics component suppliers.

The report attributes the expected surge partly to "weak demand for Windows 8" and as a way for companies like Asus "to counter Microsoft's dominance."

In addition to Asus, vendors slated to boost the number of Chromebook models include Acer, Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, and Lenovo.

Acer will up its shipments by three fold, while Samsung is eying a four fold increase, the report said.

It is estimated that Chromebooks from Google, Acer and Samsung hold between 20 percent and 25 percent of the sub-$300 laptop market in the U.S., according to the report.

Though Chrome OS has been dinged in the past for not being a "full-time OS," Google's "pace of improvement"...is ambitious," said CNET reviews.

Price alone makes Chromebooks attractive. Samsungs $249 Chromebook has been aconsistent bestseller on Amazon. As has Acer's $220 Chromebook.

Windows 8 laptops typically start at around $599. Overall, deliveries of Windows laptops have been falling on a quarterly basis, according to IDC and Gartner.
