Now that Google Voice and Hangouts have merged, we are starting to dive in and see how things have changed and if new features have been added. The first thing we tested was sending a text through Hangouts using our Google Voice number. After that went through just fine, it was time to see how MMS messages work. For those new, Google Voice has never really built-in MMS (multimedia messages) capabilities, outside of a carrier partnership here or there that allowed them to arrive as emails. In today’s update, though, MMS is fully working, though it is still a bit different than a normal MMS message.



As you can see in the series of screenshots at the top, I sent a screenshot (.png) file from my phone with the new Hangouts app over to a number using the old Hangouts app. The image shows that it sent as it normally would if I were in a Hangouts message, only it did so via “SMS.” On the recipient end, you can see that the image arrived as a URL that can be clicked for viewing. So yep, MMS or multimedia messages do indeed work, Google is just uploading them at some point in the process and then sharing them as a URL to the person on the other end of your conversation.

Last night, we were prompted to merge Google Voice with Hangouts, which we assumed meant that the day of Hangouts becoming the app we always wanted, was here. Google confirmed as much this morning, announcing that free voice calls are now a part of Hangouts on Android, the web, and iOS. They also introduced a new dialer application for Hangouts that should aid in the call making process.

Hangouts calls are free when you call other Hangouts users and when you call to the US or Canada. International rates are also low, just like they have been in Google Voice.

The update for Hangouts will start arriving today (.apk below). The new Hangouts Dialer is already available for download through Google Play, linked below.

It looks like they pulled back to fix some shyt because I cant setup the GV to do the texting in the new hangouts but I can make calls & have incoming calls ring though Hangouts instead of my regular phone app. Now i can tell who's calling me to what number :blessed:

GV used to receive. I can't remember if it could send. I know it could receive because I had all my GV msgs forwarded as emails and I could see them. And now that I remember if I replied they would get my pics. That was a long time ago though. I stopped getting them when I changed my forwarding email address and it never worked again

It could receive mms depending on who was your carrier. But that shyt only worked 30% of the time for me. You were never able to send from it...

So let me get this straight...im just checking for the fellas...:mjpls:.....so since hangouts and google voice merged you can now text and send dikk pics and receive p*ssy pics from a chic on hangouts without a chic know ya real phone number? Or nikkas still got to find some strange ass app that uses weird area codes and you got to tell bytches its ya work phone. :lupe:
