Honestly this initially had me

and yeah it's a First World Problem, but not being able to install the apps I want on my phone is crazy

I read somewhere that you would still be able to sideload with ADB so it didn't seem as bad, but even that concession (I don't think this is the right word) is just annoying. And it might actually be that bad:

Google continuing its falling off...

Unlocking the bootloader on the phone I got this year was enough of a struggle, and the dev community has withered thanks to decisions like this, ugh

I use Aurora instead of the Play Store on my ancient tablet, and access F-Droid via Droid-ify/Neo Store (these apps are nicer). Usually when I'm looking for an app, I look for something open source before checking Aurora/Play Store.

And not using the Play Store means I can't use paid apps fully because the billing doesn't work, but it's a small price to pay.

But, some apps have forced me to reinstall via the Play Store :dahell: (I can't remember which ones of the top of my head, maybe McDonald's :flabbynsick: and a banking app). I think these are the ones already using the Play App Signing which will become more widespread, as I understand it.

Yes for banking apps they are on my american phone no sin and it rarely leaves the house. I had to use ID to get the SIM so it's burned. My daily driver has Aurora and Izzy on Droid apps off github. No google and nothing tied to my name. Phone was bought with cash and the SIM is in another name to boot.

Naw I was a commo guy in the army so I learned things.

I'd post more if anyone cared.

I got a SIM in another name because in Colombia you need a Colombian ID to get a SIM Card you can get a 30 day SIM at a kiosk but that only works for a couple of months then they block the IMEI number so you have to get one in a name of someone with a ID

If I was really going crazy I wouldn't even put a SIM in the phone and just use wifi or a portable modem.

If we ever do that coli convention that @Admiral Ackbar is planning, i got a feeling that agent47 will show up repping @Wiseborn 's account :russ:
I would like to get a good cybersecurity thread going this old ass white candaian said he was talking to his buddies about getting some cheap containers and he saw an ad for conatiners on his phone.
