So I’m supposed to be starting a new job that requires me to move out of state and ive already started the process. The move is far and I’m coming out of pocket a lil bit to do it. Pay is decent and overall ill be making like 80k before taxes to live on an island doing IT, cyber security type shyt. It’s also a starter type job with room to move up in time if I wish

Well, my homie just hit me up for another job. We’re both veterans and do IT and he just hit me up to go with him to Afghanistan. He says I probably won’t be doing what he does (he’s cabling im more network/cyber and desktop support type IT) but ill be over there with him and making around 120k plus (thats how much he’s making) or more because I have more certs than him. Both are contracting jobs, one for the Marines and one for the Army.

I’m just conflicted on what to do now. One choice, ill be living with my girl on a paradise island making decent money and the other ill be sweating my ass off in Afghanistan but making great money but probably being miserable with my homie. Both companies are trying to rush shyt now.

I asked my girl and she says take the money. I have a car and place set up on island already but haven’t officially signed paperwork for anything. Not getting the job in Afghanistan would probably fukk up a lot of shyt when it comes to signing that stuff. Plus I already made a commitment to this company who also got me my clearance back.

I just need second and third opinions. I know this might be easy to some to say just take the money but idk. Money isn’t everything... so a semi- comfortable life for medium range money or a short but crazy time for a lot of money?

Plus, the afghan job isn’t even set in stone. The Marine job basically is (unless i fail the drug test or something).

Life is to be lived and experienced breh, and does the Afghanny job open up future connects & opportunities later on? Can you take less money, and still work on your future dreams and goals from the island? Whats going to give you the greatest peace of mind? In the end your like is playing out right now, so enjoy the ride in whatever decision you make embrace it, and have no regrets.

Idk

My first thought would be to not be in Afghanistan for any long term business plans though:yeshrug:
It’s definitely not long term... more like a one or 2 year flip to stack paper.

They will also have to do security clearance shyt too and it’s no telling how long that will take.

But the Island job is like a career type gig. And ive already done the clearance work. Like moving up within the company and learning shyt... one dude knew nothing about CYber security IT and ran the place in like 3 years and got a pay increase every year

Depends on where u at in life...80k on the island is much better if u already set. You dnt want to burn bridges tho. Contacting is flimsy as fukk. Anything can happen. Unless u need the money right quick to clear up debt faster. If u at a big base in Afghanistan ain’t that bad especially if u dnt have to share rooms or shyt.

You gne get taxed to hell so your every 2week paycheck only gone be a little higher but you would be eligible for 330 day tax free exemption tho in Afghanistan ..which would be close to 20k

But I would go with your lil commitment on the island. 80k legit and they helped you out with your clearance...Contracting will always be an option as long as the white man keep fighting wars..(when is that going to stop lol but to be fair the money won’t always be as good tho)

I’m contracting overseas at small shytty locations and u get rough patches but the money and vacation even shyt out

Take the stable $80k job on the island. Live well below your means to live like a king. And You'll be at $100k within 3-4 years imo

What island is it btw? Just so we know the type of scenery we working with.

Thanks for the input breh

Actually, both are contracting jobs though. And I’ll be making around 80k BEFORE taxes. I have a feeling they will tax tf out of me.

Not really if it means I go to a Stan

It not necessarily how much money you make, but how you manage the money you have currently

That is true but im thinking if I can pocket close to 150k in about a year, maybe 300k in 2, making moves like that would be easier..

Idk honestly, shyts stressful. Told my boy to send him my resume but i need to know the terms and shyt before I just drop everything and leave. I need to know when I’m going, how much I’m actually getting paid, what I’m going to be doing, what training i will be receiving, etc.

Also about the clearance thing....talk to your Security Manager and find out if you have a valid eligibility (as in not a Interim).

Because as long as you have a full adjudicated eligibility, you can leave one company for another as long as the gaining company takes ownership of your Security record as soon as you leave the losing company.

And shyt if your currently being Reinvestigated, your investigation can be transferred to the gaining job too.
