When my sister did it a month or 2 ago ... she got 88% African and 12% European.

interestingly a key factor is where your folks originate from in the South, people from the Coastal Atlantic Deep South/rural Inland Deep South tend to trend towards less admixture, Blacks from the Upper South, NC and VA and South Louisiana trends towards more admixture
of course this varies pretty strongly so nothing is set in stone of course

During slavery the majority of black people were in the "deep south" while there were less near the mason dixon and so more likely to be mixed.

I stand corrected. No idea why then, although Louisiana blacks are probably the most mixed and they are deep south so it varies region to region I guess.
