In all seriousness, it was good you were able to come through for your family.
Should have considered calling the cops, but when your grandmother is calling concerned and telling you someone is trying to break into her domain armed with a deadly weapon, it's natural to want to get there as soon as humanly possible for her sake.
And even then with the way cops are shooting black males, it's not a given that he would have walked away from it considering he was carrying a knife, so in a sense, when the idiot sobers up he should be thankful it happened the way it did.
Good thing you weren't too badly injured.
