Like I said...I started following politics closely when I was in undergrad in the Bush eraBy the way, if you just need some anecdotal backing for what all the polling is saying,I've visited comment sections of TheHill and Yahoo on stories related to the shutdown. Both sites are news aggregators with comment sections typically conservative leaning which most know, and the majority of top comments are putting the blame on Mcconnell and Trump. Go look at them yourself to verify.
I'm sure all the internal polling Democrats are seeing is saying the same thing in addition to the public polling. Trump really has no leverage. He made the shutdown and wall being tied together on his own and ended up painting himself in a corner. If the government reopened as normal and he fought for the wall outside of that, he could have probably pushed the narrative in a way to gain more favor. But now, if he re-opens the government he takes a hit on "folding" on the wall when he didn't need to put himself in this bind. Him and his little devil on the shoulder Ann Coulter fancy themselves as more sophisticated political operators than they actually are and he fukked himself. It's glorious.
They probably counted on Democrats cowering in short order and backing down, which wouldn't have precedence but damn, the Democrats are making me proud with this. Thank god the Naps of the world aren't in charge of strategy. They would have folded already and gave him money.
I understand you're mostly being facetious (I hopeThe country seems to be running just fine right now though
) but this train of thought has popped up a lot on my timeline recently and I just wanna make it clear that the only reason shyt isn't on fire right now is because of Reagan's actions against the air traffic controllers in the 80's basically making it so that all these departments need to run even just with a skeleton crew to keep them functional, for no pay and no promises of back pay for their efforts. Otherwise they get fired.
