The ship be sinking

Miller is doing a good job chronicling this. Those editors leaving was big and it was more than the four that went with Bill.

As long as Jonathan Abrams lands somewhere good, I'm cool. Rest of the site is made up of hipsters pretending not to like anything (greenwald, Wesley Morris), the corniest writers of all time (Serrano, Browne), and geeks (barnwell and Lowe). There are some gems here and there though.

Grantland went from being a hardcore sports site to being a sports hipster site...

Right now it's the complex of the sports world...

The quality has gone so far out the window its:francis:

In Jalen and Jacoby NBA season preview Jalen was out here saying the wrong players on the wrong teams...giving wrong stats on the wrong teams...shyt was just horrible...

Even Lowe as much as I like hims has been on some :dame: shyt...dude was going on and on about ATL situation...Danny Ferry asking him if he could stay around the hawks and Coach Bud giving him the :camby:...Lowe all "what happen why it happen what you think?"

Effective immediately we are suspending the publication of Grantland. After careful consideration, we have decided to direct our time and energy going forward to projects that we believe will have a broader and more significant impact across our enterprise.

Grantland distinguished itself with quality writing, smart ideas, original thinking and fun. We are grateful to those who made it so. Bill Simmons was passionately committed to the site and proved to be an outstanding editor with a real eye for talent. Thanks to all the other writers, editors and staff who worked very hard to create content with an identifiable sensibility and consistent intelligence and quality. We also extend our thanks to Chris Connelly who stepped in to help us maintain the site these past five months as he returns to his prior role.

Despite this change, the legacy of smart long-form sports story-telling and innovative short form video content will continue, finding a home on many of our other ESPN platforms.

cant remember the last time i checked for anything on there anyways. theres just no demand out there for longform sports opinion/content anymore. its all about the clowns like skip bayless and clay travis type of content that the corperations are putting money into rather than sportswriting. id imagine grandland was bringing in virtually no revenue. thats not going to fly at espn in the coming years

Just came to up this thread with the news, ESPN is a mess. On a related note, that dude Kevin Merida that left his gig at the Washington Post to head up The Undefeated, aka The Black Grantland, is a fukking dumbass.

meanwhile
Simmons debuted his new podcast, “The Bill Simmons Show” on October 1 and has since been on a tear. By October 16, the show’s 10 episodes had been downloaded nearly 4 million times, according to Simmons. It’s quickly become the top podcast in the iTunes sports category and the 14th most-popular podcast overall.

Assuming an industry average CPM of $25, Simmons’ show has likely pulled in around $350,000 since its debut, according to Pattiz. That number is almost certainly even higher considering the strength of Simmons’ brand and the scarcity of ad spots available to advertisers trying to get on his show, which pushes prices up.

Simmons stands to earn more with his current deal than he did while working with ESPN, where he was paid a salary, not based on how much revenue his podcast made. Simmons, then, has even more reason to attract as many new listeners as possible. He regularly promotes the new show on Twitter, where he has 4.7 million followers, and is likely to promote it further once the HBO show he is slated to host airs next yea
