Wasn't sure what forum to put this in, but.....

I've been getting VERY frustrated with how my lineart has been coming out. I usually traditional ink my work, but when I scan it and open it with photoshop no matter what I do, I cannot get the lines as crisp as more professional work. To put it more simply.....

My lineart looks like this....

I want to get it to where it looks more like this....

If anyone knows of a good tutorial, or has tips concerning anything like pens (I use sakura microns, but idk if I even really like them), it's be GREATLY appreciated.....

are you having the program trace the art thus creating the line art or just opening up your file and expecting it to turn out like that?

and if nothing is working you might just have to get the line tool and retrace it yourself

clean up the sketch marks that are not getting inked.
then bring up the contrast.

select all of the ink and fill it with pure black.
select all of the non inked paper and fill it pure white.

i would also suggest the ink has it's own layer.

No, I usually get rid of the white and grey, and darken the black.

I do a process something like this, but the linework is still shoddy-looking. Like, I look at logos, other comics, etc. and see how crisp their lines are (smooth, different weights, sharp, etc. Mines is still very amateur looking...

I have to get mines back soon, I winded up having to sell it earlier this year....:to: Never again though, because that may be the key (or at least a big part of it)....

There is a adobe program that will help you straighten out your line art...it's called Streamline. Your scan game isn't looking up to par as well...u can go to brightness and contrast or levels and lighten/darken the lineart and take the extra spots out of it.

The first picture looks like it's penciled...to get that crisp effect like the second picture then U would have to ink it in Photoshop. Or do what's like above and try to lighten and darken the picture

I actually literally just downloaded Illustrator. A few people have already told me illustrator's better, so I'm gonna play around with that for a bit....

I usually ink it traditionally. I want to learn how to do it all in Illustrator, but I have to buy my tablet back forst. Then I have to figure out the right settings and whatnot, because I never bothered to take the time to figure it out. I've just been doing what I know, but that's starting to be unacceptable in my eyes.....

ideally you want to know how to use photoshop and illustrator in conjunction with one another...synergism.

Breh all u have to do is go to brightness and contrast and get the lineart to professional levels if u want to make it more crisp like the second image. I also think u would need to adjust your scanner settings and turn it to black/white to get out that orange tint. For example:

kuMlWLN.jpg

This is just pencil and I edited in Photoshop. I only used levels and brightness and contrast to get the whiteness of the paper and full blackness of the pencil on the paper. You gotta learn to effectly use the tools in the program if you are going in to that art direction

Since your line art is smoother then mines, that should take no problem for u to do so.
