I wouldn't say the video gets it wrong. With your example, people more than likely just thought those games were cooler. The video also said when both of their elements are combined, then you get a mindblown experience. But I do agree with the vid that if I only could have one, give me aesthetics over graphics any day.I think this video gets "what most people want" wrong. I like Katamari, ICO, Wind Waker and Mario aesthetics but most people seem to prefer Killzone's look despite it having a supposedly inferior aesthetic. So both graphics and aesthetics are important and people often like at least semi-realistic aesthetics.
The bolded is probably true. But one of those has to be true - either Killzone/Halo/Battlefield/Gears aesthetics are pleasing to most people or most people prefer graphics over aesthetics.I wouldn't say the video gets it wrong. Killzone's aesthetic is not wholly realistic though; it's highly stylized and blockbustery. The effects jizz and emphasis on filters they threw on 2 and 3 are indicative of that to me. Games like Crysis and Arma are more "realistic" to me.I think this video gets "what most people want" wrong. But thats the thing, the general public actions speak louder than their words because Wind Walker and Mario crush Killzone in sales
People say they want games to look like Crysis but then they go back and play Counter Strike and call of duty
its kinda like a female that says she wants a great dude, but goes back to the guy who abuses her![]()
I'm getting crushed in this thread by good insight and logicwell "what most people want" can get into some complicated psychology. ultimately they have to settle for what's available. and then that gets into "what do these companies think most people want"
