Why did he wait so long to pull out money from the bank?

10/10 movie but this is the one little gripe I have. Otherwise I can understand all his other terrible decision making but not withdrawing the money early on, even if just to keep it. I suppose you could explain it away by him not knowing how bad things would so quickly due to his age, or wanting to keep the money for the future.
