Black areas are generally below the 10 freeway. I believe they don't have any fire damage for now.

one of my coworker's whole house burnt down, lost everything. crazy shyt. Does home insurance typically cover these things in LA?

Seems like some of these fires are in areas not prone/threatened by fire, so some folks may not have had fire insurance. Also hella insurance companies are pulling out of Cali entirely/canceling policies, and even more won’t offer fire insurance due to how much more frequently they’re happening. It’s a shytshow with home insurance here
