Lost Tapes isn't an album it's a compilation containing a bunch of old songs with a couple new ones

That pretty much describes most albums. Some artists record albums for years, so you end up with a mix of songs that are years old with songs that are months or even weeks old. Hip Hop Is Dead for example has two songs from the Street's Disciple sessions ("Not Going Back" and "Play On Playa"). Both those songs were mentioned in early reviews of Street's Disciple. Meanwhile, "Money Over BS" is a last minute addition.

The Lost Tapes is one of Nas's most cohesive works (aside from "Fetus" being a bonus at the end of the album). Can't really call it a compilation because it is all Nas without any guest vocals and all the songs flow seamlessly. It has all the makings of any retail album. It git reviewed and treated as any other album would with some outlets dubbing it a classic.

THANK YOU

folks don't realize the significance of what Snoop did in the late 90s, early 2000s

Man resurrected his career after Doggfather flopped and Da Game was a major disappointment

Although if we're keeping it to two albums I'd say Last Meal and that first Eastsidaz album

Two West coast classics in a row

:wow:

It's one thing to have songs that were recorded previously but we'd already heard a lot of The Lost Tapes during the time that I Am was being bootlegged so it's not like these were completely unheard songs. This was just the label taking songs that had never been officially released (although a lot of them were out there and had been heard) and "officially" releasing them along with some newer songs

I’m going to count Futures mixtape run after breaking up with Ciara. Not saying that this was the greatest, but dude was absolutely in the zone, and was putting out hit after hit. DS2 was the culmination of the run, and I personally thinks that’s a modern day Trap Classic :yeshrug:

Kanye also comes to mind with MBDTF and Yeezus. A great 2 album run after people at the time of 808s & Heartbreak believed that Ye lost a step after the passing of his mother and his sudden change in music sonically (little did people know that 808s would be the wave of the future). MBDTF is a classic, and Yeezus is a solid experimental album
