Honest question - what does this mean for me in the cost of a flight and hotel in the future

Fewer options.

Less flights, less hotels , less tour guides. You need a lot of staff to host a hospitality industry. And its not glamourous work to begin with.


If this is anything like japan it also means higher prices. In japan, employers are fighting each other for young employees , meaning wages are rising for the first time since the early 00s. So your tour guide will be pricier and so will the human heavy infrastructure of your trip. Finally, they will try to offload their social security program onto tourists so you can expect random and unnecessary taxes on all these tourist activities from the govt.
