How do you gauge how great a team is? By using a ruler that's covered in nostalgic spaces?
By using your eyes watching the teams play using basic knowledge and understanding of the game. Clearly things that you lack.

The problem with this line of thinking is, you can pretty much do this for every single season in NBA history. You can find fault and underlying truths to teams who rack up high-percentage win records but still have flaws in relation to the best team in the league, during that current season. Every. Single. Season. If you claim the league has never been in a worse state than it currently is now. Give me some examples of seasons which are notably better with more GREAT teams.
I never said that the league has never been in a worst state. I'm not that old. I can't speak on the entire history of the league. I said that the league is trash now in comparison to the recent past.

You're one of these "this is the best basketball era" type cats and I don't agree so let's get to that. Yea, I think that players and teams were better in the 90s compared to now. Since you want a comparison let's compare the league now vs when Mike's Bulls won 72. Look at the teams back then compared to now. The Raptors are the 2nd best team in the east right now and no disrespect to them but they aren't that good. I might take that '95 Terrell Brandon Cavalier team over the current Raptors. The 2nd best team in the east back in 95-96 was that Shaq-Penny Magic team. You put that team in this league and they might win 70. Outside of the Bulls and Magic you had Reggie's Pacers and Pat's Knicks. Not to mention the Heat, Hawks, and Pistons who were legitimately good teams back then. The West wasn't as deep as the east but it had more than 3 good teams. Seattle was the best but the Spurs had a squad back then too. Then you had Dream's Rockets, Stockton-Malone Jazz. That's 4 championship caliber teams right there. Teams led by some of the best players of all time. The league just isn't on that level right now bruh. The east completely sucks now and the west is shallow just extremely top heavy.

This is GOAT level team basketball. It's going to be those that don't agree or don't like it and that's fine. But you just look misguided. We've never seen this before so i understand the hesitation to accept it. Nobody saw it coming too which stings more. The naturally progression was supposed to go Bron---->KD/Russ and maybe down the line AD. Steph and the gang came through and crushed the buildings out of thin air. It's amazing and we all should acknowledge it. Don't want to be on the wrong side of history.:yeshrug:
Imo i think thats where you get some of Curry's haters from(besides Bron stans. Rival team fanbases, Cav fans) people who had it all planned out where the torch was going to go. Now that Curry the best in the league dominating and taking the torch unexpectedly and earlier then some thought would happen( people thought Bron will remain the best till he 33-34) you got people upset who have been riding hard for KD or AD to be next up as the best.

I say this because i know quite a few people like this who cant stand Curry(theyll never admit it blatantly but you can tell they cant stand him based on how they talk about him). But they praise KD and AD as well as still talking about how Bron is still the best.

I dont mind Curry he hasnt done anything to the Bulls

Plus he the reason Bron and Cavs could possibly not get a ring(i have more dislike for the Cavs than Bron so im more satisfied Cavs is not winning)

But i dont want these nikkas to have 73-9 :damn:

Yall can have 71-11 tho:ld:

Just let the bulls keep the record.

The problem with this is, have you actually seen enough tape of every era (of all teams) to make an assertion like this?
I never said that the league has never been in a worst state. I'm not that old. I can't speak on the entire history of the league. I said that the league is trash now in comparison to the recent past.
What are we talking here? The early 2000s? The late 90s? Which periods?
You're one of these "this is the best basketball era" type cats and I don't agree so let's get to that. Yea, I think that players and teams were better in the 90s compared to now. Since you want a comparison let's compare the league now vs when Mike's Bulls won 72. Look at the teams back then compared to now. The Raptors are the 2nd best team in the east right now and no disrespect to them but they aren't that good. I might take that '95 Terrell Brandon Cavalier team over the current Raptors.
This is just patently ridiculous, and shows your view of the past is out of sync with reality. This current Raptors squad would sweep that Cavaliers team with no issues at all. I mean despite trying to suffocating the life out of teams' possessions, they weren't a great defensive team at all (certainly not as good as the previous season) after Hot Rod left, T.Hill only played half a season and Cage was approaching his mid 30s (players that were the nucleus of their defense). They forced oppositions into playing at a snail's pace, which cut down pretty much all transition opportunities - which masked their lack of talent. They didn't have one elite offensive player on their team, where this Raptors team have TWO.
The 2nd best team in the east back in 95-96 was that Shaq-Penny Magic team. You put that team in this league and they might win 70.
That Magic team would probably be the second best team in the East right now, but there's no chance in hell they'd come close to 70 wins. Despite having Shaq/Penny, they had one clear advantage over pretty much every team in the league during that season, that they wouldn't have today - 3-pt shooting. They wouldn't be better than the Spurs, Thunder, Cavs and Warriors today.
Outside of the Bulls and Magic you had Reggie's Pacers and Pat's Knicks.
Pacers weren't a championship caliber team, even despite Miller's injury which was probably the main cause of them being knocked out in the first round, and the Knicks weren't close to competing for a title either - their anemic offense would even be worse in the league today. It seems like you're enamored by back-in-the-day names, and not the actual product on the court. Those two teams are no different to the good teams that are hovering around the top in the East today.
Not to mention the Heat, Hawks, and Pistons who were legitimately good teams back then.
The Heat? This is why I know you have absolutely no idea of what you're talking about. It was Zo's first season in Miami, they had quite a few injuries and not only did they have a near-complete overhaul prior to the start of the season but Riley brought in players like Hardaway, Gatling and The Wizard midseason. They were a terribly inconsistent and unbalanced team. The Hawks and Pistons weren't much better either.
This is the issue, you're looking at names instead of the product and how they'd fare in relation to the best squads of today. The only teams that had a realistic chance of beating the Spurs, Thunder and Cavs that season were the Bulls, Sonics and Jazz. And the only team that would be able to beat the Warriors, is the Bulls.
The league just isn't on that level right now bruh. The east completely sucks now and the west is shallow just extremely top heavy.
You need to wake up. It's always been like this.

Saying that this Raptors team would sweep anybody when they've never won a series themselves just shows how out of sync with reality you are. They've been eliminated with the homecourt advantage two years in a row including being swept themselves last year. :heh: Lowry being an elite offensive player and Brandon not. I can't imagine too many people who actually saw Brandon play would say that Lowry is as good let alone better than Terrell Brandon.

Yea because having a 23 year old Shaq and 24 year old Penny wouldn't be an advantage over other NBA teams today. :heh: at that Magic team not being better than this Cavs team. The only position that the Cavs have the advantage at would be with Lebron. The Magic have the advantage at every other matchup. That Magic team would be downright scary in this league.

Pacers weren't a championship caliber team, even despite Miller's injury which was probably the main cause of them being knocked out in the first round, and the Knicks weren't close to competing for a title either - their anemic offense would even be worse in the league today. Here you go with the shyt posting. I didn't say that those teams were championship caliber. I said that they were good teams unlike the trash that's in the east now. I'll take all of those teams over this current Raptors team who haven't won shyt and don't have any hall of fame players on their roster.

You have trouble staying on topic. The point that we're debating is the quality of the league now vs back then. I argue that the league was a lot deeper back then compared to what it is now. You wrote all of this and didn't say anything that refutes that point.

:heh:

You're the one who's making the assertion that the league is now trash compared to seasons/eras in the past - yet you've only used ONE season as an example - a buzzword season and you still don't even know the capabilities of those playoff teams.

H

Saying that this Raptors team would sweep anybody when they've never won a series themselves just shows how out of sync with reality you are. They've been eliminated with the homecourt advantage two years in a row including being swept themselves last year. :heh:
This is why you're a shytty poster who has limited knowledge of the NBA - you're regurgitating casual fan talking points about this Raptors squad.
Lowry being an elite offensive player and Brandon not. I can't imagine too many people who actually saw Brandon play would say that Lowry is as good let alone better than Terrell Brandon.
Lowry's having a better season than Tee Bee ever had, and pretty much has an advantage in every area on the offensive side of the ball compared to a 25/26 yo Brandon.
Most definitely not. That Magic squad had trouble against perimeter scorers all season long - against LeBron, Kyrie, Love and JR - they would comfortably beat them 4-2. They'd let Shaq get his, and concentrate on shutting down Penny, Anderson, Scott and Horace. Dudes forget that the Cavs were the best defensive team in the playoffs last season - shutting down two top-10 defenses in the process. The Magic wouldn't have the 3-pt shooting advantage they did against the league in 1996 against the Cavs.
Here you go with the shyt posting. I didn't say that those teams were championship caliber. I said that they were good teams unlike the trash that's in the east now.
:heh:

Pacers and Knicks were the only good teams (out of the secondary list) - the Heat, Pistons and Hawks weren't. Pacers and Knicks would be on the Bulls, Heat and Hawks (of this season) level now. Those other "legit good teams" you mentioned would be around the Wizards and Pistons (of this season) level.
I'll take all of those teams over this current Raptors team who haven't won shyt and don't have any hall of fame players on their roster.
This is the problem you're enamoured with names, and would take players who have the advantage of having their careers finished (HOF eligibility) on worse teams against this Raptors squad who not only has better top-talent by also are a straight up better squad. Especially since the Heat , Hawks and Pistons only had a few HOF players between the three of them. Nobody in their right mind would try to talk up the Heat as a legit good team that season - they were anything but.

You have trouble staying on topic. The point that we're debating is the quality of the league now vs back then. I argue that the league was a lot deeper back then compared to what it is now. You wrote all of this and didn't say anything that refutes that point.
Yet you've only brought up ONE season as evidence (which you're wrong about). I refuted every single one of your points - you brought up names of adage, like a casual fan would - I told you how good those teams were (strengths/weaknesses and their team situation) and how good they would in relation to the league today.

Can you even breakdown how those teams in 95/96 would beat the teams of today?
