Fallon usually makes a habit of putting on a good deal of acts that are getting a buzz, mainstream or not. If they’ve got a solid following, have a song buzzing, or they’re on the rise, chances are that they‘ll end up on Fallon whether they’re considered conventional or not (i.e. OFWGKTA, Griselda, Brockhampton). It’s probably doubly so for acts based in LA and NY.

This was the early rise of Odd Future right before everyone got hip to them.

Rap music has been around for a while, I think white people are familiar with it and often big fans. You guys are acting like rappers haven't been making drug songs for at least 30 years. How can it be shocking to anyone in the audience?

It's definitely one of the most underground sounding rap groups to have this much mainstream visibility though. I hope they can keep that going.
