Looking ahead and there’s still a clear hole in this lineup construction.

It’s filled with a ton of guys who make hard contact but don’t always square the ball up well or consistently.

A big issue is 2B. The problem is that the names I would suggest don’t seem helpful on the surface: Luis Garcia of the Nationals or Bryson Stott of the Phillies.

Both are guys who have good range defensively, and both have solid bat control even if they don’t hit for lots of raw power. But within the context of this lineup where you’re surrounded by a ton of guys who do, I think Stott or Garcia would fit in nicely…especially considering that in the postseason the Yankees will need good defenders who won’t strike out a ton.

Stott wouldn’t really cost anything as he’s a FA after the season and Philly doesn’t seem to be in love with him. Garcia may be a bit trickier since he’s having a good year and he’s under control for another year or two.

I don’t think you can find any short term 3B with a similar profile to those guys right now. The pending free agents there are terrible. Besides, the goal is Murakami in a few months.

If Jazz is ok playing 3rd then they need to offer the diamondbacks whatever it takes to get Marte so he can play 2nd base.
