We are almost at the point where we can say these Ben Rice numbers are real.
And if that’s true, there’s probably no way to justify Giancarlo Stanton getting ABs other than needing the occasional right handed power threat. But to be clear, Stanton isn’t an everyday hitter anymore.
Sure, people will defend him for his playoff success but let’s be serious here.
What you really want to see between now and the All Star break is whether the numbers start to fall in Anthony Volpe’s favor.
He is making harder contact this season and the batting metrics suggest he should be an average hitter. That, coupled with his defense should keep him on the roster.
If Volpe struggles though, the Yankees ought to consider speeding up the timeline for George Lombard. Maybe not this season but he really ought to come into Spring Training 2026 with a legitimate shot at making the team.
