I don’t disagree with Joe Maddon. I said the other day, the underlying metrics are favorable for Volpe. At least in the last 30-ish days.
But defensively he’s a mess. And yeah sometimes you do need a mental reset.

I think it’s complicated because I’m not sure if Alex really grasps how integral advanced analytics are to today’s game.Let A-Rod be the GM. No doubt he’d build a championship team within 5 years

I think Rodriguez would be best suited as a hitting coach, but I’d settle for any of John Idzik, Joe Judge, Rich Kotite, Adam Gase, Cam Cameron, David Khan, or the guys running the post 2001 St. Louis rams front office over what we’ve got now. If you told me Alex Rodriguez was being hired as GM this winter I’d be over the goddamn moon.I think it’s complicated because I’m not sure if Alex really grasps how integral advanced analytics are to today’s game.
You need a GM who at least recognizes its importance. But you don’t want a GM who disregards everything else about the game.
Maybe a GM doesn’t have to be this stats nerd to be good at his job. I imagine a lot of what a GM does has to do with negotiating contracts, networking and schmoozing other executives around the league. Setting an organizational philosophy across the Minors.
Maybe A-Rod could be great at that. Or better yet, maybe he’s smart enough to hire people around him who are good at the things he’s not good at.
And maybe Yankees fans would just prefer literally anybody to be GM instead of Brian Cashman.
There’s probably nothing wrong with that.
What, he’s a local sports product with experience in this marketHomie said Rich Kotite

Didn’t think they were going all in after what happened in Toronto anyway, basically a move to shut up the fanbase that they did something at the deadline.
30 year old career .240 hitter who has never had an OBP higher than .330 and is hitting .217 this year who won’t be around long term. I’m out everyone and I suggest you all change the channel too. A textbook example of trying to do the absolute bare minimum when a move this weak makes it clear that he may as well have done nothing anyway. This motherfukker Cashman will never go for it.
He’s always trying to be that smarty art a$$hole.
