Nah, he was different but well written
The story of iv dipped in quality as all gta games stories do around the mid point, but the overall plot was miles better than v
Even the open world itself tells a story that fills more alive and lived in by comparison. Immersion level is probably the best in the series. V got the better graphics and less hokey driving mechanics, but iv is better at pretty much everything else
I love GTA 4 for different reasons (best replication of the GOAT city, some incredible main missions, TBoGT is fire) but Niko as a character didn't interest me at all.
The supporting cast was always more interesting to me thoughout the game (the crime family with the cop brother, Playboy X & Duane dynamic, etc)

But I get Rockstar was tryna tell a more serious story that time around. So he works with the world they made though his portrayl has the growing pains of the shift in tone coming off san andreas

Liberty City at the time kind of mirrored the real world given this came out in 08 during the financial crisis where a lot of hope in the American Dream was lost.

Niko was boring, and his cousin Roman was annoying as hell. Badman and NYC made that game. I couldn't even tell you who was the villain. The mechanics were all off. I didn't even play the DLCs.

GTA4 missions were boring and repetitive af. With only 1 good mission/side mission and shytty customization options. thanks god R* returned to the 3d era energy with 5.

GTA 4 had me regretting decisions more than any game prior Or since.
Whenever I think about it I remember I should have killed that dirty cop, and I am glad I kept my cousin alive instead of that irish chick who refused to put out.
Lowkey they should definitely remaster it for the PS5.
