Yeah I'm surprised they haven't. Never expected Aries to be in WWE, this is weird, despite what that second report says. At the same time, I do feel NXT lacks star power, I stopped watching it a while ago.

They have to bring in Styles and Young Bucks as soon as possible, and stop ignoring TNA. Like do they actually see them as a credible threat?

As noted, former TNA and ROH star Austin Aries is backstage at the NXT television tapings at Full Sail University this evening, however he isn't the only former TNA star at the show.

It was rumored earlier this week that James Storm would be making his NXT return after debuting a few weeks ago. As it turns out, Storm is indeed backstage at the show and is expected to wrestle during tonight's taping.

Finally, Storm's former TNA World Tag-Team Champion partner Gunner is backstage at the show in Winter Park, Florida as well.

In the case of Gunner, much like Aries, it isn't exactly clear what he is doing at the show and is in no way confirmed that he will be debuting for NXT tonight

WWE Scaling Back On Scouting Criteria For Indy Talent; Looking To Beef Up NXT Roster, Is WWE Looking To Run An Australian PPV? - Wrestlezone

WWE is reportedly looking to load up on talent heading into the new year, and previous “limitations” based on look and build won’t be used when scouting.

According to reports, WWE is looking to get new top stars for NXT touring, and would run it as a WWE style production, but they could promote “Ring Of Honor” level main events. Apparently Vince McMahon wasn’t too high on ROH and TNA talent appearing on the main WWE roster if they were already on a national cable show somewhere else first, but it’s reported to be a non-issue when it comes the emphasis on a “workrate” type promotion like on the NXT roster.
