The offer should’ve ended now but it’s still at 50%. I just recently got it and it’s one of the best courses you’ll get on music theory. Not just for the guitar but you can apply it to any instrument.

This is not a sale pitch, I’m not associated with Rick Beato whatsoever. :hubie: But anyone who knows me knows I’ve been playing the guitar for years and I found this course very helpful.

$79 now, it’ll be $159 later. This is for early access.

I know most of this stuff already but it’s a good refresher and it’ll greatly help your guitar playing and understanding of scales and modes.

is this for beginners? bought a guitar during COVID to learn something but it's been collecting dust. i do really want to learn how to play but don't really have a musical background (outside of having a recorder in elementary and learning songs) so i need to start at the beginning like being able to read musical notes before I can even apply it to a guitar.

Yes. He breaks down the pentatonic major/minor scales. Then the major scales and its modes. The blues scale. Then the harmonic/melodic minor scales… and then augmented/diminished etc.

He relates those scales to the chords we play over them. Most importantly, he shows the shapes of the scales (which is how I learned initially) and then the intervals (basically counting the numbers).

I’m an advanced player and I found this helpful. Definitely for beginners too. Music theory is invaluable if you want to understand how to play efficiently rather than guessing by ear.

You're going to be dragging your feet forever if you want to wait to learn the music notes before using the guitar. Its extremely dry and boring content that wasn't even originally intended for guitar.

You got to get the ball rolling somehow, And then circle back and learn music theory.

I'd highly suggest you learn the 4 chords so that you're going to at least be functional with your instrument. And find one of the four chord songs that you like. You can do this in a month, and be functionally able to play dozens of songs.

Immediately afterwards you can go a little bit more formal with guitar tablature. Much more straightforward than reading sheet music. It even has diagrams of exactly where your fingers should go.

Only after doing the last two steps is attempting music theory a good idea. I say this because those two steps will get your feet wet and give you something you can proudly play in front of other people, which will be the motivator to take music theory seriously. And I'm saying this as somebody who specializes in classical guitar which is the most technical, music note heavy genre of guitar playing. Does this sound feasible?
