Gum disease (periodontal disease) is also associated with heart disease. Brehs...you need to be flossing, daily. You need to brush twice a day. Drink your water. And go to the dentist. Make sure your dentist is perio charting your gums: that means they are measuring the depths between each tooth to ensure your gums (and bones) are healthy. Periodontal disease is very expensive to deal with, and there is no cure. What you can do is PREVENT getting it by keeping your shyt clean.

If you get periodontal disease does that mean you will get alzheimers?

interesting...what do you add to the tumeric :jbhmm:
same that the link recommended:

To treat gums, the journal reported that researchers recommend applying a paste made of one teaspoon of turmeric, half a teaspoon of salt and half teaspoon of mustard oil. This should be done twice a day.

edit: oh and the paste is for your gums. i used my finger the first time, but tumeric stains (not permanent of course), so after that i just used a second soft bristle toothbrush for massaging my gums with the paste.

This pretty much sums it up. I unfortunately have a “mild” case of periodontal and yes they do the charting to see how much bone is lost or separated from gum. I do use an electric brush, an Oral-B, though I really should spend the money and upgrade. That waterpik is a good addition as well.

During Royal Rumble in Sunday, I was also watching this PBS special “Memory Rescue” on all the things that affect memory and caused Alzheimer’s, and gum disease was definitely discussed. I knew of the heart issues before, but didn’t realize the brain issues until getting my deep cleaning a couple years back.

two of my uncles and my aunt suffer from it...literally it's the worst disease that can affect a person. it's like they're shells of the person they used to be :mjcry:

All jokes aside, sorry that you're going through that.

Alzheimer's and dementia are conditions I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Any time I have bad breath it's usually food between my teeth. It starts to break down and causes the odor.
