Gun in a locked briefcase in car?

Anyone know if this is illegal? I know for the most part you have to have a gun in a locked gun container and generally have it in the trunk or something. I have a steel binding cord that is screwed into my floor and goes between my passenger seat. So i can put that on my briefcase (or bookbag or one of those laptop keys) and it could never be snatched so im not worried about someone breaking in my car and stealing my briefcase with the heat in it.

Future behavior is best depicted by past behavior and the cops have never asked to search the vehicle. Theyve shined the light in and even when ive had a briefcase or bookbag/track bag etc theyve never asked to look inside.

I figure if they wanted to search id let them and if they told me to open the briefcase id refuse and tell them to get the dog and he if doesnt smell drugs to fukk off. I cant imagine them telling me to unlock the briefcase, but at the same time I dont want to be in the wrong by saying "No officer I dont have any weapons on me or in my possession" then be caught and I know if I say "Well theres a gun that is registered to me locked in the briefcase that is on the passenger\back seat..." a 5 minute stop is going to immediately turn into a 45 min stop.

If you have a gun license like i do u have no problem.

But like Chris b said check your state laws cause most gun laws change every 3 years and if u live in a fukked up anti-gun state like i do u better read every little detail
