Don't know Dua Lipa's story, but Taylor Swift's dad bought a $300k stake in the upstart record label Taylor initially signed to (Big Machine Records), before she even recorded her first album. She also got her first tour break (Rascal Flatts) due to her relationship with promoter CAA.

You'll never catch me saying she isn't talented or average looking, but she had major help in Jumpstarting her career. Also being a poor little rich girl helps to not fall prey to the typical pitfalls (Like bad record deals) of other artist coming from less wealthy backgrounds. To be fair, Lana Del Ray supposedly had a well off background too, but she isn't anywhere near as successful as Taylor Swift.

Dude was a bit hyperbolic, but there was a ton of truth in his statement. The vast majority of the folks who are amazed by Taylor Swift's success are completely oblivious to how she got started. I have no problem with what he said because for everyone making a similar statement, the there are thousands trying to pour you a glass of T. Swift Koolaid.

Wait until the Taylor Swift / Michael Jackson comparison become more commonplace.

No one is trying to convince ppl to jump on her bandwagon. I’ve never met one T.Swift fan trying to evangelize to me to like T.Swift. She’s just immensely popular. And folks have already been trying to make Michael Jackson comps of other pop artists. Madonna Stans, Beyoncé Stan’s, etc have come for Michael. Oprah came for Michael with that documentary. Swifties and white media won’t be doing anything worse to Michael’s legacy than what other black ppl and a black woman(Oprah) has done.
