Guys I really want to get into PC gaming

But getting into it as in getting a pc is so god damned expensive! I'm even going the route of building my pc but in order to run the latest games I'm looking at around 900-1000 dollars.

Like I said I'm really trying to get into pc gaming but to make the jump is real expensive

Post up the cost of your build and its capabilities if you can...

And any tips or insight on getting better deals on parts would be very much appreciated.

you dont need no damn 900 dollars to build a gaming PC. u can get a decent one at $600. Just say fukk Intel and go AMD. That alone will save u at least a $100. Your gaming card should be the most expensive thing you get. If it isn't then

processors are just as important to gaming as video cards are, and for some games like EA games(like battlefield) they are even more important than graphic cards

Here is a $130 AMD FX-4300 processor (the fx-4100 is one of the most popular AMD processors around and this is even more powerful than that)

Performance (indexed to 100%)
starcraft 2 = red
skyrim = black
far cry 3 = blue
average = green

now here is what $100 more will get him. Exactly $100 more with an intel i5 3570k for $230

the $100 extra not only kills the cheap AMD, but it also future proofs his computer. The "$100 AMD will run everything fine" is bull shyt, the $130 AMD struggles with even games from 2011 like Skyrim, let alone future games where the i5 will play them on max settings or high settings for the foreseeable future.

Where you save your money is the $215 7850 AMD card, while its not the best card it will play everything on high/max settings RIGHT now when paired with that processor and should play most games coming out later this year on max/high settings as well.

If you get a 680 GTX ($450 card) and a $130 AMD processor you will still be playing most current games on medium. Let alone future games. The definition of hustling backwards..

I think that site is just hating on your processor because its 3.1 ghz (even though can be stock over clocked to 3.4 ghz I believe) .

its just reading a number not knowing that that 3.1 ghz processor out performs 4.3 ghz amd processors, thats all. Nothing to worry about

WOW YOUR opinion is off. Why are you comparing a low end AMD fx cpu to a mid/low high Intel i5 cpu? I have a a fx-6300 6-core overclocked to 4 ghz. It can play any game I throw at it at high settings. Yes the i5 perform better but when you are over 60 fps on either cpu why pay the extra money just to brag? Both are good gaming cpu's.

you can build a quite alright pc for far less than a g:

~75$ good 600W PSU (OCZ,XFX etc)
~25$ for a cheap case
~100$ motherboard which you could overclock
~150$ intel i5 quad core processor, dont really matter if its lynnfield or sandy bridge, ofc sandy is a little better
~50$ 4GB DDR3 RAM
~100$ 1TB hard drive
now for the gpu I recommend dropping at least 150$ for amd radeon 6850, more if you want your pc to be more future proof

and thats it! voila for about 650$ you got a PC that can run ALL new games at HIGHEST settings

Offer $59.99 and they will let it go for $64.99. Thats $35 rightt here, can probably save $15 on the motherboard, $5 on the case and maybe $10 on the PSU to get a nice video card and bump up to 8GB RAM

OP, i support your endeavor into PC gaming....but lol @ buying games on Steam for the past 4 years without a rig.

anyway, get your case and mobo, ram, cpu, psu, gpu.

start simple with the case. as time goes by you will want to upgrade it.

your mobo needs to accommodate all your components, make sure you can upgrade the amount of ram in the future if you want/need to.

you don't need the "best" gpu...i have a gtx 560ti and it's doing just fine.

for a cpu, i suggest 3rd gen i5.

I see comprehension is not your strong suite Saying a fx-4100 (bulldozer architecture) is almost as good as a fx-6300 (newer piledriver arch) is like saying a core i3 is almost as good as a i5 cpu. At least use the the newer fx-4200 low end fx to compare.

The various models of core i3 cover the low/low- med range, the various i5 cpus covers mid/low high and the i7 cover high end to extreme performance of Intel's core range. Do you understand now? Or do I need to dumb it down some more?

And yes I do need a 6 core cpu. My computer is not just a gaming computer. I use it for work and video/multimedia/photoshop work which put the multitasking to good use. So please shut the fukk up simpleton.
