Just from personal perspective i don't like a gift that comes with an obligation. I might not want to/be able to go to that particular game. If i could choose the day would be cool.
Also for the ps3 a 300+ dollar gift would be too much to accept unless 300+ is nothing to you income wise.

I might buy a card and put a cute note that says two tickets of your choice for the month of March so that he can choose. I kind of liked the idea of having the actual print out/tickets to give him though.
