Do you ever take a week (whole 7 days) off working out or longer?

I ask this because I haven't worked out in a week and I can't remember the last time I went this long without working out.. At least 6 months or a year since the last time I took this many days off.. I recently had a bad cold/ respiratory infection so that's my reasoning for the first few "rest days" but the last few have just been recovery /building up mental motivation after being sick...

This is coming from somebody who goes hard in the gym.. Like 2 hour minimum 4 and 5 days a week.. For months..

Are there benefits to taking a long break???

your stars are but dust on my shoes
Every so often. I had to take about a week/ week and a half after a recent cold just had me too tired to put in a good workout.

Other than that, I don't really go a full 7 without stepping foot in the gym. I'll at least have a cardio day when I'm too tired to lift.

It's just about listening to your body. There's days where you just need to push yourself a lil extra, and some days where rest is the most beneficial for reaching your goals.

Just came off a full week off yesterday.

I've heard that taking a week off after 8-10 weeks of constantly going at it actually helps your muscles. I'm sure someone on here more knowledgeable can speak more on it

And i usually do it after i finish a program, or i have to do life related shyt that makes it so i cant be consistent with my training that week, so id just take the whole week off

The Truth
I’ve taken close to a year off...

or at least a year without seriously lifting.

Ive been lifting since I was 15... powerlifting, football, military and including just lifting out of habit.

got to let your body rest sometimes and start all over.

Plus I got bicep and leg injuries that need rest anyway.
